On Wednesdays, we wear pink! At least, that’s what Bolivar Medical Center is hoping the community will do, when they host their first annual Pink Out Cleveland event on the downtown greenstrip on Wednesday, October 19. This afternoon event will take place from 4pm-6pm in partnership with the Delta Cotton Bells, Heart of Hospice, and Bolivar County’s Relay for Life team. The event will showcase all things pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, and will feature a host of activities for all age groups to draw people downtown to learn more.
According to the CDC, more than 42,000 people in the U.S. die each year from breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer awareness and research states that the rate for breast cancer in women from Mississippi is 121 per 100,000 women.
“The American Cancer Society is a leader in breast cancer research and has been funding investments to help ensure greater access to screening and quality care and support to people with breast cancer for more than 30 years,” said Jamie Borgognoni with Bolivar County’s Relay for Life Team. “Relay’s goals are to raise awareness for early detection and raise funds in our community to continue research to make improvements in treatments and one day have a world without cancer.
Pink Out Cleveland seeks to educate and increase awareness of the disease while offering fun fall activities for people of all ages. Free and open to the public, Pink Out Cleveland features inflatables, face painting, a bubble machine, temporary tattoos, sweet treats, and even pumpkin-decorating on the afternoon agenda. Event goers can also participate in the Pink Out contest, to see which attendee can sport the Pinkest look for the afternoon.
“The most creative pink attire at the Pink Out Downtown event will win a $50 gift card to a local store,” said Caitlyn Thompson, Bolivar Medical Center’s Director of Marketing, Growth, and Outreach. “There will be one adult winner and one youth winner. We will announce the winners on our Facebook page.”
