After a distinguished career spanning over 47 years, Dr. David Walt has retired from Cleveland Medical Clinic as of June 30.
Dr. Walt joined Cleveland Medical Clinic in 2009 and has been an integral part of Bolivar Medical Center for many more years. His contributions include serving as a hospitalist, a member of the Medical Executive Committee, a member of the Board of Trustees, and Chief of Staff.
“Dr. David Walt's unwavering dedication and service to the Bolivar community over the past 47 years have been truly remarkable. His contributions to Bolivar Medical Center, both as a physician and a leader, have left an indelible mark on our institution and the lives of countless patients,” said Jimmy Young, CEO of Bolivar Medical Center.
A 1980 graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical School, Dr. Walt's commitment to medicine and his community has left a lasting legacy.
Dr. Walt's connection to Cleveland runs deep. His father, Rufus Walt, owned Walt Service Station next to Ellis Theater, where Dr. Walt pumped gas and worked at the station throughout high school and some during college.
TC Rogers, Physician Practice Manager at Cleveland Medical Clinic and a high school classmate, reminisces about Dr. Walt’s academic brilliance, noting he was the smartest in his class at Cleveland High School.
“I knew David in high school, and I always knew he was going to be a doctor. I had the pleasure of working with him at the clinic and witnesses the positive impact he had on all of his patients,” said Rogers.
Beyond his medical practice, Dr. Walt is fondly known as Santa Claus in the community, delighting children during the holidays with his festive spirit. His clinic exam rooms reflected his love for the holiday season, adorned with Christmas-themed artwork year-round.
Dr. Walt worked alongside his wife, Marcia, at the clinic, and the couple has now retired together. He is an ardent Mississippi State Bulldogs fan, but his greatest joy comes from his grandchildren.
“We are deeply grateful for his commitment, compassion, and the joy he brought to our community. We wish him and his wife, Marcia, a very happy and fulfilling retirement,” said Young.
Dr. Walt and his family are active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, reflecting their commitment to community and faith. His legacy of unwavering dedication, compassion, and excellence in the medical field will continue to inspire future generations of healthcare professionals and remind us all of the profound impact one individual can have on an entire community.
